Firekeepers Casino 400 2023
The Firekeepers Casino 400 is a NASCAR Cup Series race held at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. The race is named after the Firekeepers Casino, a Native American casino located near the track. The race was first held in 1996 and is currently the longest race on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule.
History
The Firekeepers Casino 400 was first held in 1996 as the inaugural race of the NASCAR Cup Series season. The race was won by Dale Earnhardt Sr., who led 142 of the 200 laps. The race was held at Michigan International Speedway until 2001, when it was moved to Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race returned to Michigan International Speedway in 2002 and has been held there ever since.
Format
The Firekeepers Casino 400 is a 400-mile (644 km) race held on a 2-mile (3.2 km) oval. The race is divided into three stages, each 100 miles (161 km) long. The winner of each stage is awarded a bonus point. The race is also the final race of the regular season, and the driver who finishes in first place earns a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
