Another sitcom was released in April, ‘Daddy stop embarrassing me ‘ on Netflix, this time with none other than well-known comedian actor Jamie Foxx.
Released on April 14, 2021, the series had high expectations from critics and audiences alike, thanks in part to the star-billing attached to the name. But ratings of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.1 on IMDb seem to indicate that the show more than missed its mark.
Daddy, stop embarrassing me! Story
An ignorant middle-aged father, a volatile teenage daughter, with a family business, teenage boys and tik-tok all in the mix, Dad, stop embarrassing me, tries to portray the funny side of a dysfunctional father-daughter duo on the mend.
It follows the eccentricities of the Dixon family, primarily focused on the father, Brian Dixon (Jamie Foxx), who runs the slowly dying cosmetic business that previously belonged to his mother and his daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew), a typical 15-year-old teenager who recently lost her mother, currently forced adjusting to life in Atlanta while dealing with her father’s cringe and embarrassing (as the series’ title is aptly called) quirks. David Alan Grier as the unhinged, often high-pitched, rowdy Pops Dixon (Brian’s father), Porscha Coleman as the sometimes downright hilarious Chelsea Dixon (Brian’s sister) and Jonathan Kite as the bumbling Johnny Williams (Brian’s best friend and an Atlanta police officer) complete the ensemble.
Daddy, stop embarrassing me! Season 2 Release Date
While the said ratings were horribly low, the fact that Jamie Foxx’s name is linked to the project has undoubtedly attracted millions of viewers, especially in the US, propelling the show to the No. 1 position in the Top 10 list. of TV shows, on Netflix in multiple regions. A performance that is no less impressive considering that it has only been a few days since its release.
Netflix, which has historically given more weight to viewers than critics, makes it understandably likely that the series will be renewed for Season 2. However, since it was released very recently, no official news of the renewal has been sent out.
An 8 episode show seems like an unusually low number for a sitcom. If for some reason more episodes have been recorded and postponed, we can expect a release as early as the end of this year. If not, it’s safe to assume that in the current climate, a new release may not see the light of day until 2022.
