Casino Royale (2006) Script

Introduction

Casino Royale is a 2006 spy film and the first installment in the 21st Century James Bond film series, produced by Eon Productions. It is the 21st film in the James Bond series overall, and the first to star Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film was directed by Martin Campbell and written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Paul Haggis. It is based on the 1953 novel of the same name by Ian Fleming.

Plot

The film opens with James Bond (Daniel Craig) on a mission in Madagascar, where he is tasked with retrieving a computer hard drive containing the names of all MI6 agents in the field. After completing his mission, Bond is summoned to MI6 headquarters in London, where he is informed that he has been promoted to 007. He is then assigned to his first mission as a 00 agent: to infiltrate a terrorist organization led by Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen).

Bond travels to Montenegro, where he meets Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), a Treasury agent who is working with MI6 to track down Le Chiffre. Bond and Lynd team up to enter a high-stakes poker tournament in Montenegro, where Le Chiffre is hoping to win enough money to repay his debts to a Russian gangster.

Bond and Lynd succeed in winning the tournament, but Le Chiffre kidnaps Lynd and tortures her in an attempt to get her to reveal the location of the money. Bond rescues Lynd and kills Le Chiffre. The film ends with Bond and Lynd driving off together, with Bond’s future uncertain.

Analysis

He is also a man who is constantly evolving and changing, which makes him a compelling protagonist to follow. Lynd is also a strong and complex character who is more than just a damsel in distress. She is a capable agent in her own right, and she is also a complex and sympathetic character.
