12. Capra Demon – Dark Souls
The Capra Demon has become one of the more iconic bosses in dark souls, a towering minotaur-like beast with two giant swords. Those who defeated him remember the first meeting well. Part of the difficulty with this demon is the two dogs by his side. Walk through the fog gate unprepared and they’ll make quick work of you before you can even get one hit on the demon.
The other problem is that the arena in which you face the Capra Demon is extremely cramped. The wall is your enemy as much as he is. Fortunately, several strategies have been discovered over the years to make short work of this struggle. There’s even a way to take him out with incendiary bombs without even going through the fog gate.
11. Centipede Demon – Dark Souls
The first challenge when it comes to fighting the Centipede Demon boss is dodging the heavy attacks and avoiding lava damage. The second part is the taming of the camera, which can regularly ruin a great run. Seriously, this is arguably the most glitchy boss fight in the game, although that can sometimes work in your favor if the demon gets stuck in the landscape.
The Centipede Demon is also a great example of how sometimes you just need the right strategy to beat dark soulsbosses, and how failure ultimately leads to success. Getting the orange charred ring when you cut off his tail is a huge help here, and you don’t even have to defeat the demon to get it. It’s worth sacrificing a few souls for the ring during one run so you can come back stronger next time.
10. Sanctuary Guardian – Dark Souls
After dark souls became something of a surprise hit, fans who took the first game by storm were hungry for more. FromSoftware happily committed the following year to the Artorias of the Abyss extension. The DLC’s first boss quickly tested any gamer cocky enough to think they could get through the expansion.
The Sanctuary Guardian is a huge, white-winged lion that moves quickly and attacks with lightning, poison and physical damage. Not only do you need to be a high-level player and have the right equipment to defeat this beast, but you also need to have near-impeccable dodging skills. And as tough as the Sanctuary Guardian is, it was really just a prelude to the overwhelmed DLC bosses to come.
