With Mother’s Day already here, there has never been a better time to watch some family movies on Netflix. Whether you need a family activity, or just want to have a few hours of free COVID-19 talk with your mom this year, family movies are a great way to go.
Netflix can be hit or miss, but lately the streaming giant has been collecting titles for family movies. Check out our list of the best family movies on Netflix to bring everyone together this spring.
The Mitchells vs. the machines
The Mitchells vs. the machines just dropped on Netflix last month, and the movie is the latest to join Netflix’s family movies. The story Mitchells is simple: a family road trip goes awry when The Mitchells realize they must save Earth from a robot uprising. You know, that old chestnut.
The Mitchells story doesn’t seem as important as the great cast, with a galaxy of new faces (Well, vote) from Eric Andre to Danny McBride to Olivia Colman to Abbi Jacobson (and the list goes on). If the theaters in your area aren’t open, you can still get the whole family together for another movie outing The Mitchells vs. the machines on Netflix.
Back to the future
If someone in your family hasn’t seen the iconic Back to the future series, now is the perfect time to show them why the film is a slice of pop culture history and blown up into one of the greatest franchises of the 1980s.
Back to the future may not seem as impressive to youngsters as the movie used to do as our feeds now show videos of it actually hoverboards available for purchase, and the iconic DeLorean is put to shame by the luxury cars featured in most rap videos.
However, you still can’t buy time travel through an Instagram ad and the premise of Back to the future holds its own for an audience of eight to eighty years old. Cast on Back to the future and teach your nephew why eighty-eight mph is an important speed.
The little rascals
Is 1994 The little rascals the perfect choice for several generations of the family movies on Netflix?
Think about it. Young parents will enjoy the nostalgic explosion of one of their childhood greatest hits, their kids will relate to the pre-teen cast, and grandma and grandpa will be reminded of watching reruns of the original black and white thugs. Sounds like a hit to us!
The little rascals brought audiences a reboot in the early 90s before almost every mainstream movie in theaters was a revamp of an old story. However, we think the heart of the movie and the audience’s tenacious winks are charming and totally worth showing at the next family gathering to give generations a middle ground.
Paramount Plus can have All of that & Kenan & Kel, but Netflix has Good burger. We don’t need to explain the plot of Good burger to anyone between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-five, but our parents and children may not be aware.
Not only will SNLis Kenan Thompson draw the younger generation in Good burger, but mom and dad will at least be intrigued by the time Shaq and Carmen Electra (who both show up) ruled the pop culture landscape.
Most important of all, Good burger is family friendly, so you can trick the whole fam into basking in the comfort of hearing the age-old greeting, “welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?”
Our list of family movies on Netflix is sure to please any household looking to get together this spring. Did we miss your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
