Cinephiles’ jaws fell collectively to the ground in the wake of the startling news that Warner Bros. and JJ Abrams planned to make a new one. Superman film, where the titular hero is black. While we all desperately wish this incarnation of Superman will be the character of Calvin Ellis, it increasingly seems that Warner Bros. moves with a new iteration of the Clark Kent story. . . Hey?
Even after HBO Max’s critical and public approval Zack Snyder’s Justice Leagueit appears that WB and their DC properties are still moving in which direction this universe is currently rolling. Is this new Superman movie together with The flash supposed to reset the timeline of everything that happened before? That’s a discussion for another time. For now, we have other questions that need to be answered.
Most importantly, who will be casting WB and producer JJ Abrams as our new Superman? While nothing has been confirmed, we have some ideas of our own that will definitely be taken into consideration by WB execs. Don’t worry, hardcore DC fans of the world; we will be very careful who we cast so it doesn’t mess up timelines sorry Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Here are our picks for the next Superman movie!
John David Washinton
Denzel Washington as Jor-El and his real son John David Washington as Cal-El? Sign us up!
John David Washington, who immediately made an impression in Hollywood with his excellent work in films such as Blackkklansman, Tenet and Malcolm & Marie has earned the right to be considered the next actor to don the red cape. Washington gives every role he plays a sense of humanity, a perfect trait for an alien struggling with his identity on an unknown planet.
We think he would kill it, as his father would have done in the early 1990s.
Lakeith Stanfield is making quite a name for himself with today’s young Hollywood elite of rising stars, having done an impressive job in his smaller roles in films such as Get out, Straight Outta Compton, and this past year Judas and the Black Messiah. There is a certain intensity that Stanfield adds to each role that makes the audience question his motives, but never his heart.
Michael B. Jordan
Did you really think we would forget this young actor’s name? Yes, Michael B. Jordan has had a short stint in the MCU, but we think he still has some catching up to do after he got into Josh Trank’s Fant4stic movie a few years ago. Fine. . . let’s call it that.
It’s no secret that Michael B. Jordan is one of the best actors working today. However, it has recently been announced that he will not only star in but also direct the upcoming third film in the Creed franchise, we doubt his schedule would find breaks to play Krypton’s son. Still, this feels like an ideal casting, given that Jordan’s talents and physique are already well-equipped to play Superman in a new movie.
With little to his resume beyond the latter Star Wars Trilogy too Attack the block, we don’t think we’ve seen the best of John Boyega and his acting skills yet. Although we have a little to say about the underdevelopment of his character Finn during the Disney’s progression Star Wars trilogy, we’re not necessarily saying Boyega can’t wear the mantle of a character as important as Superman.
Boyega may still be raw, but we’ve seen enough talent there to warrant a possible Superman casting, given that his on-screen presence is as charismatic as any young star today.
Who would you consider casting for an upcoming Superman movie? If you took an actor out of the MCU and put him in Clark Kent’s red boots, who would it be? Do you think it’s okay that Henry Cavill is no longer playing Superman? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
