5 shows and movies on MX Player, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix

1. Ashram – MX player

Bollywood actor Bobby Deol has achieved some form of cult status in Indian pop culture right now. With regular posts on social media, Deol keeps trending from time to time. To be Aashram is a crime drama about a god-man who takes advantage of his followers, but a new cop is on the hunt. Aashram also features Tridha Choudhury, Anupriya Goenka and Chandan Roy Sanyal in central roles.

2. Joji – Amazon Prime Video

A slow-burning crime thriller set among the picturesque locations of Kottayam in Kerala, this Fahadh Faasil starrer is all about the Panachel family and its poignant power dynamics. While the sons are hard at work, they fear the father and house patriarch who unexpectedly has a stroke that then triggers a series of events that jeopardize the family’s image and prosperity. Joji is directed by Dileesh Pothan and with a running time of just under two hours, it’s crunchy and a guaranteed fun watch.

3. How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) – Netflix

Dark is undoubtedly one of the winners of Netflix’s international showcase. But How to Sell Drugs Online is a fun and light show from Germany that frankly doesn’t get the praise it deserves. The story of a teenager who, in order to impress his girlfriend, starts selling drugs from his bedroom to become one of Europe’s biggest dealers is certainly one you can get behind. And with a new batch of episodes hitting the platform earlier this month, you’ll have as much fun watching the show as I wrote about it.

4. Thappad – Amazon Prime Video

There are many great movies released on OTT platforms in 2020, but none are really better than Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad which was one of the last movies to be released before the lockdown. Powered by Tapsee Pannu’s effortless performance, Thappad can be the story of any Indian woman. It’s a movie that’s the need of the hour and without being too preachy, Thappad tells a lot about the dynamics between men and women in a marriage and what needs to change now.

5. The Good Place – Netflix

This afterlife comedy series spans four seasons and is perfect to immerse yourself in this weekend. The story is just about twisty, but at the same time still fun and light-hearted to enjoy while intrigued. The cast is the biggest selling point as each of the main characters nails it in their performance and gives absolute fun for four seasons.
