5 shows and movies on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and Voot Select
1. Kapoor and Sons – Amazon Prime Video
I recently saw a tweet that praised Kapoor and Sons and claimed it was criminally underestimated. And then it struck me that this movie hasn’t really gotten as much credit as it deserves. It is a story about the Kapoors, a dysfunctional family that tries very hard to show that everything is okay. Things eventually start to erupt when the two sons return home after a long time away. Kapoor and Sons stars Rishi Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra in central roles. But it’s the measured performances of Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor that really elevate the film.
2. The morning show – Apple TV
Today is Jennifer Aniston’s birthday, and while that is the time to start your replay Friends for the nth time we recommend The morning show on Apple TV. A show that earned her an Emmy nomination for her performance as Morning Show anchor Alex Levey, The morning show is about a network that goes through the ringers when a lead anchor is accused of sexual misconduct. The show is classy, quite intense, and powered by some great performances from the cast. The morning show stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Mark Duplass, Billy Crudup and Steve Carrell in lead roles.
3. Elementary – Voot Select
An American spin-off of the famous Sherlock Holmes story, the series manages to hold its own and has had seven seasons. With the premise being almost the same, there are still some major differences from its UK counterpart. Based in New York, Elementary Sherlock helps the NYPD solve difficult crimes with his friend Joan Watson. Elementary stars Johnny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, Natalie Dormer and Aidan Quinn in central roles.
4. Parasite – Amazon Prime Video
It’s been a whole year since the Korean movie Parasite became the first non-English film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The film, directed by Bong Joon-Ho, is a brilliant portrayal of society’s class differences and how the poor are constantly striving for a better life, even at the expense of their wealthy employers. Parasite stars Cho Yeo-young, Park So-dam and Kang-Ho Song in lead roles.
5. Hasee toh Phasee – Voot select
If you’re in the mood for a decent romcom after a long day at work, this one might be perfect for you. Yet another Sidharth Malhotra movie that makes the list, Hasee to Phasee is underestimated again, but has a very sharp story about a man who falls in love with his girlfriend’s sister. Shortly after realizing this, he begins to see life from a different lens. Hasee to Phasee also stars Parineeti Chopra and Adah Sharma in key roles.
