Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 11 has just one COVID-related incident, says Jeff Garlin. Centered around the comedic exploits of a fictionalized version of Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, Curb hit HBO in 2000 and almost immediately established itself as a TV classic.

In the two decades since the show was first introduced among TV’s great misanthropes in the semi-fictional David, Curb has been able to offer nine seasons, with the latest coming in 2020. Of course, every time a different season of Curb Your Enthusiasm Asks Questions immediately begins to squirm as to whether the show will ever return. Indeed, there have been some long waits between seasons before, the longest between season 8 in 2011 and season 9 in 2017.

Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm who have already wondered if they can visit Larry, Jeff, Suzy, Cheryl and the rest of the gang can rest easy knowing more Curb is coming, and maybe when this fall. Hunting on The Ringer, actor and producer Garlin showed that the series is currently filming and there are only a few more episodes to complete. Garlin said he believes the new episodes will arrive in the fall, although he didn’t seem entirely sure. On the topic, Garlin fell for a fascinating tidbit: the show won’t get COVID-heavy in its material. According to Garlin, there is really only one episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11 that tackles the pandemic in a big way. Garlin explained why he thinks it’s a fantastic choice not to focus on COVID now that life is returning to normal:

By the way, I want to say that, except for the first episode, we don’t do any COVID stuff. The first episode touches on, there are a few things. But it’s a post-COVID world in Curb. What, I was talking about how much I love South Park. South Park had the very first COVID song they did – put together so well, done so well. I didn’t laugh once. People don’t want to see COVID stories. We have our own COVID stories. Get them away from me.

Garlin made it clear that he is not involved in deciding the creative direction of the show, as that is all around David. But he says if David delivered more COVID dust, he wouldn’t agree with the choice. Fortunately, it looks like David and Garlin were pretty much on the same page when it came to limiting the total amount of COVID-related humor in Season 11.

As Garlin mentioned in his comments on The Ringer, South Park 1 is a show that hit the COVID pandemic badly in a few unique episodes. But South Park tends to be a much more topical series, while Curb Your Enthusiasm tends to touch current events only marginally. Indeed, Season 10 featured only 1 episode tackling the era of Trump making hilarious hay from Larry wearing a reddish MAGA hat as a way of getting people to leave him alone in liberal Los Angeles. On the one hand, Garlin is probably right about people not wanting to listen to COVID stories, especially now that the pandemic is still raging. On the other hand, if there’s one series (besides South Park) that might turn the pandemic hilarity, it’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
