A Netflix original, Sense8 uses what looks like a well-known science fiction trope – ordinary people discovering that they are mysteriously connected by supernatural forces – but uses it to explore progressive and current issues such as gender, sexuality and religion.
Created by the Wachowskis (The Matrix, V for Vendetta), who are also trans women J Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), the series built a small but extremely passionate fan base when it first aired in 2015.

What is Sense8 about?
Eight strangers, living in seven different countries, begin to discover that they are ‘senses’ – connected by their ability to feel the feelings of others and think their thoughts. Meanwhile, another sensation, working for a mysterious organization called the BPO, is determined to capture the group. As they try to figure out how they are connected and why they are targeted, the strangers begin to affect and sometimes save each other’s lives.
Sense8 is action-packed but with a winding, carefully paced plot that challenges viewers to come up with clues as the story unfolds.

Where was Sense8 set and filmed?
The series took place – and was filmed – in cities around the world, undoubtedly one of the reasons the production costs were so high. Locations for the first series were nine cities in eight countries, including Berlin, Mumbai, Nairobi and Seoul. The second series was even more ambitious, filming in 16 cities and 11 countries, including Malta, Brazil, Italy and Scotland.
Some of the recordings were planned in view of major events and festivals, including the Dyke March in San Francisco and Christmas in Berlin.
