Ghost runner 2 is without a doubt one of the coolest games this year. A fast-paced, high-stakes romp through rainy, neon-drenched city streets, this ‘first-person slasher’ isn’t exactly the most exciting cyberpunk game on the horizon. Ghostrunner 2 will make you feel as cool as you thought you would be in Cyberpunk 2077; and as deadly as you could want in Mirror’s Edge. Don’t just take my word for it, though: you can try it right now on Steam thanks to a free demo, well over a month before Ghostrunner 2’s release date.
Ghostrunner 2 has just about everything you could want from an ultra-smooth motion shooter: an airborne dash, a slide that goes on and on, a grappling hook, deflections, parries, shuriken, perfect dodges, and even a “focus” that lets you pause the action take a moment to catch your breath and determine your next move. And it’s all set for a pulse-pounding, momentum-driving synthwave soundtrack to perfectly enhance the atmosphere.
Ghostrunner 2 is both a puzzle game and a platform game and is all about keeping moving and not getting hit. The checkpoints are fast and frequent; you can even enable an option in the menu to allow manual restarts at any time if you’re really trying to perfect your skills. As you sprint, slide and zoom through streets, walls and rooftops, you’ll encounter all manner of enemies – each a small combat puzzle to solve, and each one as satisfying as the last.

Ghostrunner 2 has even more to offer than its predecessor. New abilities give you more ways to be creative and experiment with your routes – something you’ll need in the more open, non-linear levels of this sequel. Enemies will react dynamically to the skills you use, while boss battles promise more freedom to choose how you approach them. There are even motorcycle sequences, just in case the game wasn’t fast enough for you.
Those of you worried that you might find the pace a little overwhelming, have no fear. There’s a combat support option to help you land those killing blows, while those of you who really want to test your skills can even enable a timer and kill counter to keep track of how well you’re doing. Like Neon White and the first Ghostrunner before it, this is a game so satisfying to play well that it almost turns you into a speedrunner without you even realizing it.
The Ghostrunner 2 demo is now available for free on Steam. You can head here to try it out for yourself – be warned, just a few minutes of play and chances are you’ll already be adding it to your wishlist; it’s just so much fun.
