After a long time, Sundeep Kishan has tried his hand at comedy in this week’s release of ‘Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL’. Since it is directed by G Nageswara Reddy, who previously directed comedies like ‘Seema Sastry’, the film has attracted attention.
Let’s see how much it laughed.
Tenali Ramakrishna (Sundeep Kishan) is a novice lawyer in the city of Kurnool. He doesn’t get many cases to deal with.
Due to some incidents, he accidentally takes businesswoman Varalaxmi’s (Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar) case and rescues her from a murder case, thinking she is innocent. However, he finds out that Varalaxmi is not innocent.
How Tenali uses his brain to get her involved is the rest of the drama.
Performances by artists:
After playing serious roles for years, Sundeep Kishan has played a comedic role, but his body language doesn’t suit this character. He has tried to perform mass moments than do the comedy.
Hansika doesn’t have much to do but be the hero’s lover.
Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar in her first Telugu film has done a decent job.
Saptagiri’s comedy is good. Murali Sharma and Vennela Kishore are ok. Chammak Chandra generates a few laughs in the second half, but they are quite routine.
The film has decent technical values. Cinematography is the main asset. Sriram has presented this colorfully.
Music and artwork are sufficient for the theme of the film. However, it needed better editing work.

Long second half
Director G Nageshwara Reddy belongs to the old school of filmmaking. His comedies worked ten years ago, but the current generation does not align with these mainstream comedies. His recent flops are proof.
After a long hiatus, he came up with this movie and tried to present the old comic elements in a tetrapack, but this old wine in a new bottle is not good enough.
It’s a punishment to sit through much of the movie where nothing happens but some comedic punch dialogue.
A lawyer with no business, a bunch of comedians doing all kinds of gimmicks in court, and a hero who falls for the daughter of a wealthy lawyer, etc. – these scenes come straight from a formula template of comedy films.
In general, Allari plays Naresh in such comedic films. The only difference in “Tenali Ramakrishna” is that Sundeep Kishan has stepped into the shoes of Allari Naresh.
Since Sundeep is not a typical comedy hero, the director has tried to include some mass moments and fights.
A few comedic portions certainly got a laugh in the second half, but the film is more of a clichéd entertainer.
Nageshwara Reddy has included all references of current political jargon Kodi Kathi, Grama Volunteers, political rap that brings a smile to the lips. But the whole episode of Sundeep Kishan – Varalaxmi goes on and on and ruins the proceedings further.
All in all, ‘Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL’ is a weak case that barely manages to win the hearts of the audience.
Bottom line: Weak case
