Taskmaster is a British comedy panel game show. The show was created by Alex Horne at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010, which was later adapted for TV in 2015. This show originally premiered on Dave from 2015 to 2019, but was later taken over by Channel 4. The show features comedian and actor Greg Davies as host or titular. Taskmaster He is the person who assigns the simplest comedic tasks to the five participants on the show. These participants or panelists are generally comedians. Greg Davies is assisted by Alex Horne who acts as a referee during tasks or challenges.
To date, Taskmaster has aired 85 episodes, including three special episodes within the 10 seasons. And as of now, Channel 4 has even extended the show for six additional seasons to release in the following three years. The show is popular internationally with changes in Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Finland and New Zealand. There was even an American version available that only lasted one season. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Horne started a home activity called #HomeTasking for viewers to play with, from which a winner was chosen by Davies. The show even has a book and board game.
The game is mainly based on simple and bizarre tasks handed out to the participants by Greg Davies. As task master he is assisted by Alex Horne who helps regulate the challenges. These tasks are usually solo tasks, but are even assigned in teams occasionally. These tasks are designed to force the participants to think intuitively and complete the task. Each episode begins with the Prize Task where participants are asked to submit a prize according to the theme set by the Task Master. These items will be awarded as prizes to the winner of that episode. This is followed by a series of three or four pre-recorded tasks that usually take place in and around the Taskmaster house. This is a former gardener’s cottage, situated on the edge of a golf course in Dukes Meadows, Chiswick
The participants will stay in the Taskmaster house where they will be given their assigned task in an envelope sealed with wax. The players have to open the envelope and read the task aloud, after which they have to try to complete the task in their own way. These are pre-recorded and will be shown to the public later. They may try to justify their method with Davies, who, after grading all attempts, gives points ranging from 5 to 1. Some episodes even have participants complete tasks in groups of two and three. These groups remain the same throughout the season, the points for this are divided equally among the team members. The final challenge is performed in front of a live audience.
In addition to the prizes received every day, the winner of the series will even receive a trophy that was later replaced by a gold bust of Greg Davies
