Nearly two decades after Gus Van Sant’s haunting poetic expression of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, the emotionally charged subject of school shootings remains ammunition for provocative and innovative films.
The newest entry on the list of movies centered on mass shooting is Kyle Rankin’s action thriller, Run Hide Fight who makes a bold effort to understand the victims of the fatal school shootings.
Half-hearted premise
Run Hide Fight follows high school student Zoe Hull (Isabel May) who struggles with her new life after the death of her mother. She emerges from her gloomy psychological retreat when a group of gunmen attack her high school. Zoë must use her humor, survival skills and compassion to fight for her life and that of her classmates and teachers.
Unlike the previous thought-provoking movies in the disturbing genre of mass shootings who showed the premise of gunshots on school grounds through psychological glasses, Run Hide Fight does not deliver any substance and instead offers a tone-enhancing version amidst the heart-pounding tension and action.
