Based on the Sri Lankan civil war crisis, ‘Inam’ revolves around a group of teenage orphans and their struggles in the midst of the country’s political struggles. The Tamil film, which was written, directed and produced by Santosh Sivan, faced unjust criticism and political suffocation in Tamil Nadu, preventing it from being shown in cinemas.
Now, after almost a decade, the most controversial Tamil movie will be released on an OTT platform, and here’s everything we know about it.
Why was Inam banned from theaters?
‘Inam’ initially premiered in 2013 at the Busan International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews and high praise. Following its success, the film was scheduled for release in Tamil Nadu on March 28, 2014. However, due to political unease over Sri Lanka, several political parties in Tamil Nadu violently opposed the theatrical release of ‘Inam’.
The film only ran in the cinema for three days, after which Santosh Sivan himself withdrew it.
Inam is released on an OTT platform
Santosh Sivan is critically acclaimed for his controversial storylines and recently announced on his Twitter account that ‘Inam’ will have a release on OTT platforms. So this serves as an appeal to fans who like its movie form, or those who want to know what the controversy was about, can catch this movie when it’s officially released.
However, there is no official release date or news of the OTT platform that ‘Inam’ will premiere.
