The first movie to hit theaters in the new year 2024 will be starring Aadi Sai Kumar.

Let’s take a look at its pros and cons.

Story:

Abhay (Aadi Sai Kumar) works in a software company. He has monophobia. Abhay kills himself when left alone for a few minutes.

Abhay’s mother asks him to get married because he would have company for the rest of his life. He loves a girl Vaishali (Nuveksha), but he buys time to tell her his problem.

One day he finds himself in a situation of being alone in his house. He asks his friend Giri (Saptagiri) for company.

A night when he has to be alone leads to a lot of problems. How does he solve them?

Performances by artists:

Aadi Saikumar plays the part in his usual way. He plays a software professional, but he beats up guys and cops like he’s a pahilwan.

Newcomer Nuveksha is ok. Rohini lives up to her role. Saptagiri as a hero buddy doesn’t offer much entertainment.

Technical excellence:

Sekhar Chandra has given two lilting songs. The cinematography is decent. Writing and editing dialogues is clumsy.

Highlights:
Main plot point

Disadvantage:
boring story
Pre-interval sequence
drag second half
Lack of strong conflicts

Analysis

We’ve seen ‘Ghajini’ with short-term memory loss. We have seen that Nikhil Siddhartha had a problem with sunlight.

“Atithi Devo Bhava” talks about a new phobia or disease: Monophobia. As a doctor explains in the movie, it’s a mental illness. Fear of being alone! A hero who had such a problem has not been heard of. In that sense, the storyline has something new.

“Atithi Devo Bhava” deals with a new problem, but the story has age-old problems such as lack of effective direction, poor writing, dragged scenes, etc.

It took the director almost 30 minutes to introduce the problem of the hero and other characters. After everything is captured, the movie goes completely directionless. The hero has a phobia of being alone, but in many places he behaves like a psychopath. He also acts like a person who lacks common sense.

His behavior with a thief and relative from his adjacent flat is a clear example that the director has been filling scenes at his whim to fill the gap.

The whole point is on a single element – the hero does not even tell his phobia to his close friend and lover. So he forces people to be near him, which leads to misunderstandings. If this situation had been handled in a humorous way, it would have worked.

Or if it had been told as a thriller, it would have been different. But it’s not going anywhere. The whole point loses focus after a point and becomes a dull affair. The scenes of monophobia also become monotonous after a while.

The biggest problem is the uninvolved story. Many scenes in the film look cinematic and defy logic. The second half takes place entirely in one night.

It feels like the director clearly doesn’t know what he really wants to say. Despite some nice songs, and the illogical situations and boring treatment, “Atithi Devo Bhava” doesn’t interest us at all.
