Earlier this year, in March, the Isekai anime “Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World” ended its second season. After that, fans were nervous about the show’s return for a third season. So will there be a Re: Zero season 3? Has the anime been extended or canceled? And what could be the possible release date? Read on to find out.

About the show
Re: Zero is an Isekai anime and has many characteristics of the same. The series is based on our protagonist Subaru Natsuki, who at first glance is just an ordinary introverted teenager. That is, until he is spontaneously transported to a fantasy world he could only imagine. The series breaks with many of the Isekai clichés. As such, Our little protagonist gains a supernatural power. Using this power, he can turn back time. The power is called “Return by Death” and it allows him to turn back time when he dies.
This concept is very similar to today’s video games. When the main character dies, he or she is automatically returned to the last save. And it’s the same here with Subaru. So some video game inspiration is clear. This time travel mechanic is one we really appreciate. It reminds us of Life is Strange, the video game. In the game, Max can similarly turn back time to make things run its way. She is able to win arguments, save lives and, in fact, do crazy things. Re: Zero also follows the same concept, allowing Subaru to win conflict by turning back time. The cycle of conflict, flush, and repeat allows him to navigate his way through the series.
Re: Zero: So Far
So far, White Fox Studio has released two seasons of the beloved show, and fans have consumed everything hungry. Season 2 of the show began streaming last year, but production was soon interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the release of new episodes was also put on hold. The second season contained a total of 25 episodes. The first episode was released last July and more episodes were released every week. That is, until production was interrupted due to the pandemic. After production resumed, the second season ended on March 24, 2024.
The creators of the show have been very positive so far, as have the fans. Fans really enjoyed the show’s second season. And the makers couldn’t be more pleased with it. In fact, even before the second season’s release, they said it would leave fans wanting for more. And it seems that what they said turns out to be true. Fans are already cheering for a third season of the show.
Re: Zero Season 3: Announcement
So far there has been absolutely no news from the creators about a Re: Zero season 3. And that is fair to say. Season 2 of the show just ended 2 months ago and it’s a bit unreasonable to expect a season 3 right away. So, in fairness to the creators, it’s just way too early to make a statement about season 3 of the show. However, there is a very high probability that the show will be renewed for a third season. The reasons for this are the generally positive response from fans and the fact that we have only just reached Arc 4 of the original material. Season 3 is expected to continue with Arc 5 and move on from there.
Therefore, there are no official announcements regarding the renewal of Re: Zero so far. However, in our opinion the show is definitely being renewed for a third season. At least that’s what logic says how things should be.
Re: Zero Season 3 Release date
Given that there has been no announcement of a Re: Zero season 3 so far, we dare say that the chances of it coming out in 2024 are pretty slim. So, as of now, nothing really can be said about when Season 3 would come out. Given the schedule of the previous seasons, we may have an idea. The show premiered in 2016 and then took 4 long years to return for a second season. Now they might need another 4 years for a Season 3, but given the responses Season 2 has received, we hope they would consider releasing it sooner.
A good estimate is between 2024 and 2024. We know this is quite a long time frame, but given the current data we have on the show, this is the best we can really say. Since the show has a history of long periods between seasons, and the fact that there has been no official announcement so far, this two-year period remains our best bet for Season 3.
Re: Zero season 3 cast
The cast for Season 3 of Re: Zero, when it comes out soon, is expected to remain largely the same. However, some new characters may be introduced, due to the fact that it is an adaptation of a novel.

The show is expected to largely follow the above cast for its third season. And we would very much welcome the same, given the quality voice the actors are currently giving.
What to Expect from Season 3
As we mentioned earlier, Season 3 of the show is expected to be picked up in arc 5 of the hit novel. The story is expected to follow Subaru and its companions against the witch cult battle in Watergate City. This reminds us a bit of Edge of Tomorrow, as the film followed a similar premise. So we feel the Tom Cruise starrer deserves a mention here.
At least this is what we expect from season 3, as season 2 ended at arc 4 and should logically follow with arc 5 unless the showrunners have other plans in mind. Be that as it may, Re: Zero keeps its magic. It will still continue to mesmerize its viewers with its twists and turns and simple dark brain games. What the show will entail, however, remains to be seen.
Final words
Re: Zero is a phenomenal anime, and one that has given Isekai a lot of name. It has kept its magic over the 5 years and the audience reactions reflect it. We just hope the anime returns for a third season. The expectation is just too much. While it may be too early to call on Re: Zero Season 3, dare we say it has all the positive markers and may ever happen.
