If you were a professional gangbanger hired to remove a mark, why leave a probably incriminating, sealed envelope put up to a Secret Service agent? It was there on the table, in the kitchen that… good girlsTattooed Mick on his face ate his spicy bowl of Chef Boyardee! He must have seen it, he was standing right there!
Why am I talking about Mick’s vision problems, lack of attention to detail or just sloppiness in his craft? Well, because that same envelope And last but not least found his way to Agent Phoebe Donnegan, and thanks to the contents, she and Dave are back on the case (unofficially of course, since their head honchos put the kibosh on it). So as Beth rushed into Thursday’s episode to kick off two separate but related plans, this damned bit of documentation threw another key into her main goals: avoiding the blow and trying to stay alive. Read on for all the highlights from episode 13.
While reviewing some evidence from the murder scene, a police officer finds the envelope that Potter intended to send to Phoebe. The letter comes into Phoebe’s possession and the agent is… shook. (But hey, some good news for us! Who doesn’t want more Lauren Lapkus in their lives?)
Beth tells Ruby and Annie she’s considering running for city council. If Rio ever wanted to, say, lock Annie in a freezer again, Beth would at least have some influence. Turns out the idea was Nick’s, but she does confirm that hightailing to Nevada is still very much in her plan. She just wants to make sure they can all get there in one piece.
Since Ruby announced that one of their bags was fake, the parent text chain has come loose. Stan was forced to admit “the mistake” and pay back everyone’s money in the process. “You go out with your girl for a night and you come back with problems that stay with you forever,” he tells Ruby, calling the whole thing “déjà vu.” He is understandably angry because it should have been pocket game to be side issue. And again, he blames Beth.
Meanwhile, Rio finds out about the plan to reopen the club, and although Beth tells him it’s only a place to print, he wants them to wash there too. Reluctantly, the women approach Krystal about picking up the club’s old dancers, and when they are told it will be an equal partnership between all of the women, the ladies are inside.
Phoebe visits Dave to ask him to return to Detroit with her, but even with the new evidence in hand, he doesn’t seem interested. But later he tracks down Phoebe at her hotel in Detroit. He’s ready to bounce back… and Nick is their main target.
Stan and Dean gather some evidence of their own to share with the pyramid scheme brothers, including a piece of a torn counterfeit bill. Dean has cold feet, but with a little push from Stan, he gives it up, wondering (and yes, worried) what will happen to his wife when he is a free man.
A group of concerned moms try to stop the club from opening, but with the help of some local businesses now struggling without the support of the club’s customers, Beth and Co. their public hearing. However, their celebration is soon cut short. “Hello guys. Do you miss us?” Phoebe and Dave enter the club and let everyone know they won’t be leaving anytime soon.
After learning that Ruby is connected to Beth through the club, Stan begs Dean’s head brother not to send the documents to the DA. They agree to discuss it at the next meeting…and this can not be good to poor Stanley.
Beth brings a bottle of booze to Nick and tells him she’s running for city council after all. What convinced her, he asks. We flash to a scene where Beth looks down on all the photographic evidence Dave and Phoebe have shared with her. The entire file, including photos of the brother/cousins, is scattered across her desk. Looks like she’s back with Team Secret Service. “You,” she says to Nick.
Will Beth, Phoebe and Dave be able to take out Nick before the series ends, or will Beth be the one who ends up behind bars? Post your thoughts and theories in the comments!
