Marvel’s Eternals Trailer Finally Reveals Celestials and Deviants, But Not Galactus

This would be Kro, one of the original Deviants introduced in the comics, and someone who may have a romantic history with Thena (at least according to the early Kirby comics). Despite his more humanoid appearance, it’s pretty cool how they were able to still represent that genetic instability in him. In the comics, Kro was also a shapeshifter who was notorious for taking on the guises of devils and demons to scare mankind.

The Celestials, on the other hand, are towering cosmic beings whose thoughts and motivations can hardly be perceived or comprehended by human beings, eternal or aberrant. We’ve seen hints of the Celestials in other MCU movies, most notably one called Eson the Searcher who appeared in a quick scene in Guardians of the Universe.

Instead, this is Arishem the Judge, one of the most powerful of all the Celestials and one of the first introduced in Jack Kirby’s original Eternals comics. Arishem’s arrival on Earth isn’t a good thing: it means the Celestials have returned to judge their creations… and there’s no guarantee that it will end well for everyone. It seems that “the rise” that Salma Hayek’s Ajak refers to at the beginning of the trailer could very well be the return of the Celestials, meaning we’ve only got seven days until judgment.

That said, Marvel can do their job for them when it finally comes time to tell that Fantastic Four story to differentiate it from what they’ve got planned here with the Celestials.
