Mangaluru: Konkani Movie ‘Benddkar’ To Be Released On June 10th On OTT Platform Of ‘Localwood’

Mangaluru, June 1: After completing the trial run, ‘Localwood’, Karnataka’s premier coastal OTT platform, is all set for its first-ever commercial release. The Konkani movie ‘Benddkar’, directed by Harry Fernandes, will be available on the said platform on June 10th.

‘Benddkar’ saw its theater release in November 2019 and received great appreciation from viewers for its storyline and visualization.

“’Benddkar’ has already premiered in Dubai, Goa, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Qatar and has received positive response. The film is also dubbed in the Goan Konkani dialect and our team had plans to release it in theaters in Europe, the United States, Australia and Goan. But due to the Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown imposed on these countries, the film’s producers were forced to drop the release dates just like other production houses. But after a long wait, the makers decided to release the film on ‘Localwood’ OTT platform.

“Due to the current situation, it will take another year for the theaters to function fully. So we used the advanced technology like OTT platform to release our movie to reach the audience directly. Majority of the public today is familiar with OTT platforms and large numbers of movies are released on them. Without any effort, the public can only access movies sitting at home. So we decided to release ‘Benddkar’ on ‘Localwood’, a popular OTT platform among the public that originates from the coast of Karnataka. It is a golden opportunity for Konkani film buffs around the world to get a class film at their fingertips for a minimal ticket price, ”said a production team member of ‘Benddkar’.

‘Benddkar’ means brass band artist. Since the music form of the brass band is declining, it is necessary to revive this form of music. With that theme in mind, the movie ‘Benddkar’ Konkani was made.

Prince Jacob, Varsha Usgaonkar, Manogna, John D’Silva, Kevin D Mello, Naisa Lotlikar, Sunitha Menezes, Deepak Paladka, Joseph Mathais and others feature prominently in the film. ‘Benddkar’ is directed by Harry Fernandes, who has also directed films in Marathi and Bhojpuri languages.

So far, Harry Fernandes has directed four Konkani films. He has directed ‘Noshibacho Khel’, ‘Sophiya’, ‘Zanvoy No 1’ and now ‘Benddkar’. The music is composed by Patson Periera, the lyrics by Wilson Kateel and Shafeeq Sheik is responsible for the cinematography. The film is produced by Harry Fernandes, Prince Jacob, Dolphy Rebello and Stany Alvares.
