At a bus stop, a man named Laal Singh Chaddha (Aamir Khan) recounts his life story to strangers who sit next to him on a bench.
Young Chaddha is fitted with leg braces to correct a curved spine and is unable to walk properly. He lives alone with his mother, who runs a boarding house out of their home that attracts many tenants. On his first day of school, Forrest meets a girl named Maneela Sodhi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and the two become best friends.
Chaddha is often bullied because of his physical disability and marginal intelligence. While fleeing from several bullies, his leg braces break off, revealing Chaddha to be a very fast runner.
After graduating college Chaddha enlists into the Army. During basic training, his friend a fellow soldier nicknamed Karthik convinces Chaddha to go into a business with him after their service.
After months of routine operations, their platoon is ambushed while on patrol, and Karthik is killed in action. Chaddha saves several wounded platoon-mates and is awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism.
After his last film, Thugs of Hindostan, failed at the box office, Aamir Khan is gearing up to come to the big screen with the incredible story of Laal Singh Chaddha.

Laal Singh Chaddha was initially announced to release on 25 December 2020, coinciding with Christmas. However, due to a production halt owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, the release was postponed to 24 December 2021, which also falls on the Christmas weekend
