Plot

Le Chiffre is planning to finance his terrorist activities by winning a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Bond is teamed with CIA agent Felix Leiter (Wright) and MI6 agent René Mathis (Giannini) to infiltrate the tournament and stop Le Chiffre.

Bond poses as a wealthy Russian businessman and wins the tournament, but Le Chiffre captures him and tortures him in an attempt to retrieve the money. Bond escapes and kills Le Chiffre, but is left physically and emotionally scarred by the experience. He returns to MI6 and is promoted to the rank of 007.
