How Many Casinos Are in Virginia?
There are currently six casinos operating in Virginia, with two more in the planning stages. The casinos are located in Richmond, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Bristol, Charles Town, and Danville.
Richmond
The Richmond casino is located at the former site of the Richmond Coliseum. The casino opened in 2021 and is operated by Caesars Entertainment. The casino features a variety of slots, table games, and a poker room.
Norfolk
The Norfolk casino is located at the Waterside District. The casino opened in 2022 and is operated by MGM Resorts International. The casino features a variety of slots, table games, and a poker room.
Portsmouth
The Portsmouth casino is located at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The casino opened in 2023 and is operated by Hard Rock International. The casino features a variety of slots, table games, and a poker room.
Bristol

The Danville casino is located in Danville, Virginia. The casino is scheduled to open in 2025 and will be operated by Bally’s Corporation. The casino will feature a variety of slots, table games, and a poker room.
Future Casinos
In addition to the six casinos that are currently operating in Virginia, there are two more casinos that are in the planning stages.
- A casino is planned for the former site of the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The casino is scheduled to open in 2026 and will be operated by West Virginia Lottery.
- A casino is planned for the former site of the Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia. The casino is scheduled to open in 2027 and will be operated by the Cordish Companies.
