Regardless of your shape or size, belts are a must-have in your accessory arsenal.
As mentioned in so many of my previous blog posts, I’m a big believer in accessories. I always recommend my clients to wear a belt to change the shape of an outfit or the look of their figure. Accessories are one of the best ways to share your personality with the world, they can make or break an outfit. This also applies to belts. A belt worn in the right place can do wonders for the shape of your body. They can also transform an outfit into an even more put together and polished look.
The three most important things to consider when figuring out how to wear a belt are here:
1) Right place
Wear a belt on the narrowest part of your torso. This is normally at your natural waistline, which is often higher than you may realize. It’s basically upstairs where you would normally wear your pants or trousers.
2) Size & Pattern
To create a slim shape, emphasize or create a waist – go for a belt about 1 to 2 inches wide. Keep it simple with no embellishments, dangling pieces or distractions. This can actually emphasize the area, making you appear bigger than you actually are!
3) Color & Experiment
Adding a colored belt to a plain or monochromatic outfit can really add some interest and extra excitement. It’s also worth experimenting with a belt over the top of a blazer or a longer fitting cardigan. It’s a great way to create a more feminine look for a blazer and keep your figure from drowning in a large cardigan.
I’d love for you to share in the comments below how often you wear a belt? Did any of these tips help you be more creative when adding a belt to an outfit?
