In this post, we will discuss the dub version of Haikyuu Season 3. Haikyuu is a popular sports and comedy anime based on Haruichi Furudate’s manga series, who is both the writer and illustrator. The manga premiered on April 6, 2014 and went on to become one of the most acclaimed anime with high ratings all around. However, Haikyuu’s third season received even more critical acclaim and is the 20th most popular anime series in My Anime List. The series premiered on October 8, 2016 and ended on December 10, 2016. Unlike the first two seasons with 25 episodes, Season 3 only had 10 episodes.
While the production quickly released the dub versions of seasons 1 and 2, it took several years for the season 3 dub to be released. Although fans of the anime had already seen the season 3 sub after not keeping up with the suspense for so long, they were still waiting for a dub version to rewatch the season. Sentai Filmworks dubs all seasons of the anime and they licensed the third season in 2019.
What is the series about?
The series follows the story of Shoyo Hinata, who sits below average height but dreams of becoming a famous volleyball player after watching a match on television and admires Karason’s Ace, who is also small but has excellent skills in the game . Nicknamed “The Tiny Giant”, his team played in national games. In high school, Hinata begins to learn volleyball and somehow manages to team up with players from different games. After a crushing defeat in their first game, Hinata takes in Kurasuno High School, his idol’s alumni.
However, when he joins the volleyball club, he meets Tobio Kageyama, the high school setter who beats Hinata’s team. The two did not get along at first, but settled their differences due to the strict attitude of their captain Daichi. But their problems don’t stop there. Karasuno hasn’t produced a great team in the five years since The Tiny Giant’s team graduated. Once one of the powerhouses in Miyagi prefecture, the school is now referred to as the “Wingless Crows” due to their continued defeats. Now, with Hinata, Kageyama and two new freshmen, the team is reviving their motivation and goals for the subjects.
What happened in Season 3?
After Shoyo Hinata’s struggles as a short volleyball player, the third season saw the Miyagi prefecture final between Shiratorizawa and Karasuno High. The entire season begins with the intense competition between the two teams, as players discover their new strengths and revive their passion for the game. As the “wingless crows”, Karasuno had little support and everyone believed that Shiratorizawa would have an easy victory. The final saw a long game of five sets, in which Shiratorizawa easily crushed Karasuno in the first set with a score of 16-25.
One of the main reasons for this defeat was Shiratorizawa’s top player, Ushijima. He’s a left-handed spiker whose spike causes the ball to turn in the opposite direction, leaving Karasuno’s libero Nishinoya little chance for him. With its left-handed peaks combined with its height and strength, Ushijima is the third best peak in Japan. Not only that, on the next set, another incredible player, Tendou Satori, reveals his true skills. He is a middle blocker nicknamed “The Guessing Monster” due to his accurate read blocking.
In the middle of the set, while Karasuno is still struggling with Ushijima’s spikes, Tsukishima manages to accurately locate and block one of Ushijima’s spikes with a kill block. This shocked the audience and the players of both teams as there are only a few blockers in the country who can completely knock out his spikes. This boosts the team’s morale and they won the second set.
During the third set, Shiratorizawa’s setter Shirabu revealed his backstory and admiration for Ushijima. The set quickly ended with Karasuno’s defeat. However, they won the fourth set due to Hinata’s surprising left hand attack. Until the fifth and final set, the match was more intense than ever. The last set has a match point of 15 and Karasuno won with Hinata’s spike, bringing a set score of 19-21. The season ends with Karasuno celebrating their victory and preparing for Spring Nationals.
