Get the countdown ready for the premiere of Netflix’s upcoming fantasy drama series Shadow and bone is only a few weeks away. The adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling book series has been exciting since it was announced in December 2020 and a teaser trailer was released last month.
But unfortunately, now we have the official Shadow and bone trailer and a series of new photos to get a good glimpse of the thrilling fantasy adventure. Ready to start the journey? Here’s everything we know about Netflix Shadow and bone until now.
The new Shadow and bone trailer sheds light on the striking new series filled with formidable magic and monsters. For those unfamiliar with Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, the story follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), an orphaned soldier who makes her way in the dangerous, war-torn world of Rabka.
As seen in the new Shadow and bone trailer, the teenage protagonist proves she is a powerful Sun Summoner capable of harnessing the power of light. Although she presents herself as just a mapmaker of the King’s First Army, Alina could be a monumental figure in the fight for freedom in her country. “Everyone looks at me like I’m the answer,” Alina notes in the trailer.
When Alina’s powers are discovered, she is taken away by General Kirigan (Ben Barnes), a powerful Shadow Summoner who takes her to the palace to train with him. “Our enemies are threatened by your existence,” Kirigan tells her in the trailer. “The only thing more powerful than you or me: the two of us together,” he also says, giving goosebumps on our skin.
However, Alina’s quest to quell the evil forces of the Shadow Fold that plague humanity isn’t as simple as teaming up with an attractive partner. In fact, as her best friend Malyen Oretsev (Archie Renaux) warns her, Alina’s enemies list grows as a bounty is put on her head and she’s chased by a squad of criminals because of her powers.
Others fan-favorite characters appeared in the trailer like Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman) and Jesper Fahey (Kit Young) – a trio that will keep our attention. Shadow and bone Book buffs are over the moon to see the characters jump off the pages and come to life on the show.
