Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 6: The Climb

The Climb is the sixth episode of the third season of the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones. It was written by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, and directed by Alik Sakharov. It first aired on April 17, 2013. The episode is centered on the Battle of the Wall, which pits the Night’s Watch against the Wildlings. The battle is a turning point in the war between the two factions, as the Night’s Watch is able to repel the Wildlings and prevent them from crossing the Wall. However, the battle also comes at a high cost, as many of the Night’s Watch are killed. The episode also features several other storylines, including Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) decision to leave the Night’s Watch and join Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane); Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) decision to sail to Westeros; and Tyrion Lannister’s (Peter Dinklage) escape from King’s Landing. The Climb received generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising the battle scenes and the performances of the cast. However, some critics felt that the episode was too long and that it did not do enough to develop the characters. The episode was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Alik Sakharov) and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Benioff and D. B. Weiss).
