You’ve probably heard of quizlet a few times on the internet or at least you’ve come across the popular term “flashcard” which is almost peculiar about it. Quizlet is an American online study application or website that provides the necessary learning resources to help students study.
It uses electronic flashcards to facilitate memorization. A flashcard in this case is simply a card with information on both sides and is usually intended to be used as a memorization aid. A flashcard has a question on one side and an answer on the other. The main use of a flashcard is to remember vocabulary, historical data, formulas, or any subject that is best learned using a question-and-answer approach.
Quizlet was created in October 2005 by Andrew Sutherland as a study aid to aid in remembering his French lesson, and was made public in January 2007. It trains students through the use of flashcards and various games and tests.
Quizlet reported that as of February 6, 2019, they had approximately 300 million user-generated flashcard sets and over 50 million active users. It now ranks in the top 50 websites in the US and has massive coverage of over 130 countries worldwide. It is made available in different languages like English, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian etc.
Study modes on Quizlet
After you have created or found your desired set of flashcards, quizlet allows you to study this set of flashcards in different ways. This includes:
- Flash Cards:
This mode is no different from the traditional paper flash card we know. It is the most popular study mode on quizlet. Here, for each term, the user is presented with a card that often shows the question, and the user can turn the card over by clicking on it or by using the arrow keys or the space bar. The user is given the option to make the face of the card an image, a word, or both.
This mode is one of the “play” study modes and is so named because it was designed based on the idea behind gravity. Here the definition is created to scroll the screen in the form of asteroids and then the user has to type the term associated with the definition before it reaches the bottom of the screen.
- To write:
In this study mode, the user is presented with a particular term or definition and then has to type the correct definition or term. After typing the answer, users can see if they were right or wrong.
This is the study mode where the term is read aloud and the users are given the responsibility of typing the term with the correct spelling. If the user gets all the spellings correct, he or she is usually rewarded with a video of a monster truck doing a jump, wheelie and somersault.
Here, a grid of scattered terms is presented to the user and users have to drag terms into their definitions to remove them from the grid and try to clear the grid as quickly as possible. Another variant is called “Micro-match”, which is aimed at mobile devices with small screens, but users can still access this mode by manually editing their URL in match mode, to use “micromatch” instead of match.
In this study mode, a quizlet user, who is usually a teacher, divides his class into teams of different numbers or even plays the game individually with students. The teacher then decides whether the students should start with a definition or term. Each team will now have to choose the correct term/definition to win. The team with the highest points wins.
Find answers quickly on Quizlet
The easiest way to find answers from quizlet is to search for them. Searching for answers on quizlet can be done in a number of ways and one should try to always include the main keyword and be as clear as possible. An example of a quick search would be “Windows keyboard shortcuts”, which is better than something like “window shortcuts list”, but at least this is my opinion.
Another thing to maximize your chances of getting the results you want is to make sure the terms are spelled correctly. Always check to make sure that two different words are not accidentally joined or to confirm that the entered spelling is correct.
Below are the ways to search for quizlet answers
Search internally on Quizlet:
This involves using the search bar in the top menu of the quizlet website. To do this, move your pointer to the search bar, click it, and then type your search query, making sure that the words or terms are spelled correctly.
To use the keyboard shortcut:
This may not be very useful for mobile phone users unless they have their mobile devices connected to an external keyboard.
Windows users can press Ctrl + F to open the search box, where they can type their search query and press enter.
Mac OS users can press Command + F to open the search box as well, where they can enter their searches.
External search engine
Another quick way to find answers to quizlet is to use an external search engine like Google. This can be done by going to www.google.com and then typing your question in the Google search box, but the problem here is that the search query must include the term “quizlet” or “quizlet.com”, preferably the end of the question.
For example, let’s try to find a set of flashcards on the topic “Windows Keyboard Shortcuts” on Google. How to do this is by typing “windows keyboard shortcuts quizlet” or better yet “windows keyboard shortcuts quizlet.com”. This will return a series of search results on the topic from quizlet.com. You can then click on the search result to be redirected to the web page on the quizlet website.
You can try this method with any search engine out there be it Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ask etc. it will work.
Why you should use Quizlet for learning:
- It provides an easier and faster way to learn.
- It makes learning fun to do.
- It makes preparation for tests and exams easier.
- It’s a good approach to topics that follow a question-and-answer format.
