I’ve been toying with the idea of redecorating my home lately and a beach theme is one of the home decor ideas that has kind of piqued my interest.
Now I’m not a beach bum or anything. Not even from a distance, but I absolutely love the peace and tranquility that only a beach atmosphere can provide.
I understand and appreciate that decor themes and love for things are two completely different things when it comes to home furnishings. When it comes to decorating your home to look and feel like the beach, love for the coastline just isn’t enough. Beach-themed sets are a completely different ball game.
But one thing I’ve come to realize is that decorating your home is an individual journey and a process. There really is no end point and it is a journey that has its own story to tell. As the person who creates the space, it is your responsibility to tell your story with the beauty and joy you see and get from it. If you can’t design your home to tell your story, what’s the point?
Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
When I think of the beach, calm and serenity are the overarching emotions I feel. That’s what the beach means to me. That’s the representation and the feeling I get when I’m in a coastal area. If I gave my home a beachy feel, I would like to be able to capture these feelings everywhere. The look and feel of a quiet place that I am grateful for.
But do I really need beach-themed decor to achieve such a design performance or to feel that way on a daily basis? Could be. Maybe not.
At the end of the day, any space can be transformed into anything. Whether it’s a peaceful and restful retreat or a center of chaos and disorder.
While I’m trying to figure it out, I’ll give you a few tips on how to add some beach-themed decorations to your home. Whether that is your bedroom, kitchen, bathroom or living room. These ideas can be applied to any design theme and not just a coastal theme. I will explore many more home decor options in my coming posts. So stay tuned for those.
For now, have fun with it and enjoy!
It goes with everything
Beach colors are cheerful colors and cheerful colors never go out of style.
Walls are important when it comes to choosing an interior style. Walls and floors are the 2 most important spaces.
Coastal colors can be very colorful, bold and fun. Like greens and blues. But you can make it as soft as you want to make it almost neutral. Using more neutral shades helps to still give the beach vibes without going over the top.
Everything is a matter of preference.
Overall, a truly classic seaside theme will never go out of style. Personally, the brighter and bolder, the better. Don’t be afraid to stay true to your classic rib theme with your choice of colors.
It’s always in style
Keep it clean and organized
Fun and messy are not the same. While beach themes are known for their fun and vibrant decor styles, it shouldn’t be cluttered. Keeping everything looking well organized and tidy will help you feel the seaside atmosphere even better.
be lazy about it
One of the easiest ways to give your home a beach or ocean theme makeover is to use decor accessories. Go for the low-hanging fruit and buy fun coastal decorating accessories for an instant transformation.
Think outside the box
Things that are evident on the beach, such as shells, starfish, corals, etc. come to mind first when you think of the coastal decor. But it’s worth looking at other not-so-obvious ways to add the beach vibe without necessarily using beach stuff.
Use your space as a shop window
Sometimes you only need one item to show which theme your interior is about. You can have muted and neutral tones and a bold coastal statement like a mural or something. To make a statement and amplify your design theme.
Don’t suppress your individuality
Home decor is all about adding your personality to your space. A beach-themed design is not set in stone and offers just as much scope for personalization as any other design theme. Add a unique touch with beach themed items that are unique and personal to you.
Have fun and be corny if you have to
It’s your space and you can do whatever you want. Give yourself the space to be who you want to be in your coastal space. Beach decor is about giving a good atmosphere all around. Sometimes things can come across as cheesy and that’s okay. Have fun, be quirky or cheesy if you want.
In coastal decor, the colors are normally on the soft and natural side. There is also a generous feature of natural elements such as wood, rattan, straws, plants, etc. It promotes the atmosphere of feeling healthy in your space and a sense of peace with nature. You can stick to one color palette everywhere or vary the shades.
From the white sand beaches to the blue oceans, you can find coastal theme images for your space. There are many elements of the coast that you can capture to develop your own unique coastal theme.
The perfect decorating essential
The beach is a place of peace and harmony. It’s fun and eclectic, but with a sense of calm and serenity. You want to capture these characteristics in your coastal themed design.
Whichever way you choose to decorate your home, always consider it your retreat. Your safe haven where you can relax. Beach-themed decor gives you a refreshing feeling in comfort and design.
