Chaos Walking (2021) was with chunks of expectations among the people, but the review shows that the film failed to satisfy the audience.
The film is an adaptation of the novel “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” a science fiction novel written by British-American author Patrick Ness.
Book lovers can never deny that “The Knife of Never Letting Go” is one of the best books they have ever read. This novel received 99% of positive reviews as the rating still holds with 4.4 / 5.
The novel was published in 2008 and still has hearts with powerful pages. Due to the success of the novel, Doug Liman directed Chaos Walking (2021) with lead characters Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, Madds Mikkelson, Nick Jonas and many other famous faces.
This movie is said to be one of the highly anticipated English movies. The film was not rated as expected. The reason behind it was so candid that it didn’t do justice to the novel.
The film revolves around the earth, cosmic ghosts, spaceships and the noise. The planet will have the phenomenon of noise, where men can hear the voice of other men’s minds.
But men cannot hear the sound of women while women can hear the sound of men. The phenomenon of noise in this story can be seen both positively and negatively.
The main character Todd Hewitt belongs to Pretistown, where no women live. The small village will be full of men because they killed all the women because no one can hear the sound of women.
Todd comes across a spaceship wreck in the woods, where he discovers the spaceship crash and sees a survivor, and she’s a girl, Viola.
Todd had never seen a girl before, because his mother was also murdered a few days after his birth.
Todd has the power to control his sound while he is being trained. He lowers his voice and says, “I’m Todd Hewitt, I’m Todd Hewitt, I’m Todd Hewitt.”
After meeting the girl, he will be impressed when he looks at her, and he will help her save the day. The film travels with Todd, Viola and his Dog Manchee where the mayor and others will search for Todd and Viola.
How Viola is saved and what kind of bond is shared between Viola and Todd. What will happen to the people who chased them will build the further story of “Chaos Walking”.
Todd’s dog Manchee stars in the novel because Todd can hear the dog’s sound on the pages.
These bond sharing scenes are going to be great while reading, but the movie didn’t give such a nice importance to the dog.
In the movie, the dog hangs out while Todd flutters his tail. The dog’s death scene is appreciated in the novel because it brings teras to the reader’s eye.
That particular scene in the novel is so sensitive and emotional, but the movie didn’t care about that scene. In the novel, as previously mentioned, Todd will be able to hear the sound of the dog.
This will strengthen the bond between Todd and Manchee. In the middle of the story, Aaron is given two options for Todd to choose between rescuing Viola or rescuing his dog.
Todd will choose Viola and Aaron will kill the dog where the dog is screaming Todd for help, and Todd will hear that. This scene will make the eyes water with emotion while reading.
But in the movie, Todd will try to save Viola and Manchee, but unfortunately Manchee will be caught with Aaron, and he will kill the dog where Todd will helplessly watch Manchee die.
The emotional impact of reading the pages was not reflected in the film, and this was a major setback from the film.
The movie may look abrupt, but then understanding the story will help viewers understand the flow of the movie.
