Caves and Cliffs is the most anticipated update in Minecraft history. This update is quite large compared to last year’s nether update, which added new nether biomes, blocks and blocks to the hellish fiery dimension.
Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Update focuses on the upper world instead of the underworld and the final dimension. It changes the overworld terrain generation by increasing the world height limit and adding new caves and mountain biomes.
Ever since the announcement of the Caves and Cliffs update at Minecon 2020, fans have been wondering when the update will be released.
This article covers everything players need to know about the release of the 1.17 update.
Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update: Expected release date, features and more
Expected release date
A few weeks ago, Mojang announced the split of the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update into two parts. Both parts arrive on different dates this year. However, the first release of the Caves and Cliffs update follows the original schedule.
The first release of the Caves and Cliffs update will be released in mid-2021. Fans can expect to download the 1.17 version by the end of the summer. Recent snapshots have already focused on fixing bugs and polishing things up, indicating that the update is coming.
The initial release of Caves and Cliffs focuses on adding new blocks, mobs and items to the game. Unfortunately, new biomes and changes in the world generation are not part of the initial release.
Here are some of the key features of the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update first release:
Copper is a new mineral coming in this update. It generates in veins underground like other ores and is common at elevation level 47-48. Copper allows players to craft copper blocks, lightning rods, sight glasses, and more.
Deepslate is a new type of stone that is found in the deep soil layers. It generates below / near elevation level 0. Deep slate blocks have a longer mining time than rock and cannot be mined immediately.
Deep slate replaces stone blocks that generate below height level 0. Like stone, deep slate has several variations such as paved, chiseled, polished and more.
The 1.17 update adds three new mobs to Minecraft: axolotls, glow squids, and goats. Players can find axolotls and glow squids spawning in the swampy caves, while goats will naturally spawn in the mountain biomes.
The director is scheduled for the second Minecraft update arriving at the end of this year. Players will be able to play with these new mobs by mid-2021.
Besides this, many other new functions, blocks and items are added. Interested readers can read the full list of features in the update here.
