Plot summary

Evelyn Tremble is a British agent who is sent to a casino in Royale-les-Eaux, France, to compete in a high-stakes poker tournament. He is there to draw attention away from James Bond, who is investigating a terrorist organization called SPECTRE.

Tremble is initially successful at the tournament, but he is eventually defeated by Le Chiffre, a SPECTRE agent. Le Chiffre then tortures Tremble to try to get him to reveal the British government’s plans for a new defense system.

Bond arrives in Royale-les-Eaux and rescues Tremble. He then tracks down Le Chiffre and defeats him in a game of baccarat. Bond then kills Le Chiffre and destroys SPECTRE’s plans for the new defense system.
