Casino Revel Atlantic City is a casino resort located in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is owned by Glenn Straub and operated by Hard Rock International. The casino opened in 2012 and was the first new casino to open in Atlantic City in more than a decade.
History of Casino Revel Atlantic City
The site of Casino Revel Atlantic City was originally home to the Sands Casino Hotel, which opened in 1980. The Sands was one of the most successful casinos in Atlantic City, but it closed in 2006 after being sold to Colony Capital.
In 2008, Colony Capital announced plans to build a new casino on the site of the Sands. The new casino, which was originally named Revel Atlantic City, was designed by the architectural firm Arquitectonica. Construction on the casino began in 2009 and it opened in 2012.
Casino Revel Atlantic City was initially a success, but it struggled financially in the years that followed. In 2014, the casino was sold to Glenn Straub for $110 million. Straub invested heavily in the casino, but it continued to lose money. In 2018, Straub filed for bankruptcy protection for the casino.
In 2019, Hard Rock International purchased Casino Revel Atlantic City for $200 million. Hard Rock has invested heavily in the casino and it is now one of the most successful casinos in Atlantic City.
