A third season was announced before the second ended in May 2019. Additionally, the second season ended on a cliffhanger and there’s no reason there won’t be season 3. In fact, there will be more seasons, as confirmed by lead actor Bill Hader.
Bill appeared on the January 7 episode Late Night with Seth MeyersDuring the interview, Hader dropped some news that will put a big smile on all the Barry fans out there. “Season 3 is completely written, ready to go,” he said. “And then, during this time, we actually went and wrote Season 4 … So we just wait until we can start shooting again.”
Premise and season 3 plot
Bill Hader plays the eponymous character Barry, a cheap Midwestern hit man with everyday troubles. It is on a hit mission that he travels to Los Angeles to appear alone at a theater production location. This changes his life as he now wants to become a theater artist and falls in love with a co-actor. He is coached by Gene Cousineau, played by Henry Winkler, while his connections to the world of crime occasionally make an appearance. He tries to juggle both lives and keep them away from each other. Barry’s misery and ensuing comic events are at the heart of the storyline.
There are chances that Season 3 will be dark and depressing. Season 2 confirmed that Barry is not a good guy. In fact, he is a cold-blooded murderer. He had his acting mentor Gene Cousineau (Winkler) arrested for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend. In reality, it is Barry who killed Cousineau’s girlfriend. In the finale of the second season, Cousineau realizes that his student is indeed a cold-blooded murderer.
Nearly a year ago, co-creators Bill Hader and Henry Winkler individually stated that they were completely unaware of the story’s progression. While there is no information on the upcoming season’s plot, it is expected to be about Barry and Gene’s face.

Stephen Root said in an interview with Collider that hope is one January restart date ‘I think we probably won’t be [going] until January to do this, but hopefully HBO will let the forces write season 4, and maybe we can do those together very soon. “
It is already February 2021 and production has not started yet. The last thing he hears is that they will start in April 2021 with both Season 3 and 4 to be filmed consecutively.
