Regular sports drama with routine misses

What is the movie about?
Sundeep Naidu (Sundeep Kishan) comes to Yanam on vacation. He falls in love with Lavanya at first sight. While trying to woo her, he gets the chance to accidentally showcase his hockey skills.
At the same time as the love story unfolds, a corrupt sports minister is attempting to negotiate a multi-million dollar deal by selling the hockey playground to a pharmaceutical company.
How the two parallel courts connect with the common element of hockey. What is Sundeep Naidu’s past and how does he know about hockey? What eventually happens to the playground, is what the movie is about?
How is Sundeep Kishan’s performance?
Sundeep Kishan has the form in A1 Express. It blows through the part without breaking a sweat. It has more to do with the character design working in his favor. The depth in the aggressive part is lacking, but that has more to do with the conception of the role than with its act.
Directed by Dennis Jeevan Kanukolanu?
Dennis Jeevan Kanukolanu leads A1 Express. It is a typical masala sports drama to which all ingredients have been added in the correct proportions.
The story of the film is completely predictable from the start. Once we know the politician’s intent, things are pretty crystal clear. It’s all about performance now and A1 Express is neat on that point.
The comedy looks very forced at first and slows down the procedure. However, since it is not a major barrier, the focus of the film is elsewhere.
The sports decor and setting is where the heart of the film is. The details for involving the viewer in this aspect are superficial, but nonetheless okay.
By adding the ‘Basha’ formula to the regular sports drama A1 Express scores in the first half. It is completely predictable but at the same time enjoyable when expectations are under control.
In the second half, the formula story is brought to the logical end. So we have a mandatory flashback, which could have been handled nicely. It drags the movie down, even if the emotion it wants to convey is correct.
It’s the story after the flashback where the movie picks up. It’s slow at first, but by the end it gets back on track with the big hockey game.
The hockey game is done well within the available resources. It’s slapped in between with some elaborate drama and heroic loftiness, but that’s what makes it okay and not making the whole thing look flat.
All in all, A1 Express is a routine sports drama. Its strength is that despite its predictability, it manages to provide mass moments, albeit intermittently. If you are a fan of hardcore mass movies, give it a try.
Lavanya Tripathi and others?
Lavanya Tripathy’s parts start on a positive note, as if it were going to be very crucial to the movie. However, as the movie progresses, it gets relegated to the backseat. As a result, she seems totally out of mind after a point.
The real acting roles in the movie are given to Murali Sharma and Rao Ramesh. The senior supporting actors perform. They are the main pillars of the central drama. Rao Ramesh feels a bit over the top, but Murali Sharma is excellent at portraying a genuine coach.
Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramesh are okay. The first shows a glimpse of his act from the web series ‘Loser’. Sathya could have been better utilized. Posani Murali Krishna is wasted. The rest are suitable for their short roles.
Music and other departments?
Hiphop Tamizha’s songs are okay. Despite the loudness, however, the background is fantastic. The cinematography is decent, but the over-the-top rating certainly sticks out every now and then. The assembly is fine. The writing is reasonable given the mass effort here.
Few scenes with Rao Ramesh and Murali Sharma
Slow pace at times
A better flashback for masala elevation would have helped smooth the story without too much melodrama.
Did I enjoy it?
Yes, in parts
Will you recommend it?
Yes, but only for Mass Movie Lovers
