1. The big day

The big day is a six-part wedding documentary series produced by Condé Nast India. It explores modern Indian relationships through the lens of Indian weddings – presented in full technicolor. It is a visual delight and extravaganza with song and dance. A modern take on the setting, the show highlights the exciting real-life weddings featuring affluent local and non-resident Indian couples, covering a wide variety of stories. The first three episodes of this saga will be out on Valentine’s Day (February 14), with three more to follow in March. We’re bingeing here, on Valentine’s weekend, what about you?

2. Pitta Kathalu

Netflix ‘First Telugu Original Movie, Pitta Kothalu is a four-part anthology film directed by Tarun Bhascker, BV Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin and Sankalp Reddy. In informal Telugu, Pitta Kathalu means short stories about women, which should give you a sense of the series’ central premise.

3. Bombay Rose

Another first for Netflix India, this time in the form of an animated film, Bombay Rose joins the list of upcoming Indian Original shows and movies on Netflix. The film, which first came out in 2019, was delayed for unknown reasons. Based on true events, the film explores the relentlessness of a society where the love and life that reigns on the big screen can crush you in the mean streets.

Kapil Sharma’s Upcoming Show (untitled)

In a tweet, Kapil Sharma announced his upcoming partnership with Netflix India. Coming soon to the platform, the teaser promises fun and comedy. Veteran actor Anil Kapoor also shared the tweet with his followers, announcing the “Aus-picious” new project (check out the teaser for reference).

5. Bombay Begums

Bombay Begums is probably the biggest project among the upcoming Indian original movies and shows on Netflix. According to the platform’s synopsis, the show charts the stories of five women of different generations who struggle with desire, ethics, personal crises and vulnerabilities to achieve their ambition in contemporary urban India. Because glass ceilings break and hearts break, tough choices have to be made. The engaging drama should keep you hooked to the end.

6. Cobalt blue

A fictional novel of the same name, written by Indian filmmaker and author Sachin Kundalkar, will be the starting point for this upcoming movie on Netflix. The story revolves around a brother and sister from a Marathi family, who fall for the same man who comes to stay with them. How the two grapple with their personal comparison and love makes up the rest of the story.

7. Desert dolphin

Directed by Manjari Makijany, Desert Dolphin is an Indian-American coming-of-age sports drama starring Waheeda Rehman, Rachel Sanchita Gupta, Shafin Patel, Amrit Maghera, Swati Das, Ankit Rao and Jonathan Readwin. Set in Rajasthan, the film tells the story of a teenage girl who discovers her love for skateboarding after being introduced to the sport by a British-Indian woman. If you google the title, you’ll see the result for a 2020 release, but Netflix confirms it will be out in August 2021.

8. The girl on the train

Parineeti Chopra makes her big OTT debut via The girl on the train, which is based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel. Interestingly enough, an English-language movie has already been made, starring Emily Blunt. Chopra plays Ribhu Dasgupta, the protagonist in this one, along with Aditi Rao Hydari, Kirti Kulhari and Avinash Tiwary. The story centers on a woman who watches a couple from the train every day while they are on their way to work. One day, when she looks at the couple, she sees something that changes her life forever.
