There are only so many things to do to stave off boredom these days. While Netflix has a wide variety of the best movies and shows to stream, you will eventually find yourself getting tired of just staring at a screen. Luckily, there is a wonderful solution to this problem: Movie drinking games.
Watching an amazing movie with friends is a fun pastime in and of itself, but add in a drinking game to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a hilarious pop culture party in full swing.
1. Love Actually
It may be a Christmas movie but time is meaningless right now, so go off! Of all the cheesy, sappy, awful, wonderful Christmas movies out there, Love Actually is the best and makes for one of the best movie drinking games.
Drink when:
- Someone says “Christmas”
- Someone wears a turtleneck
- You find out how people from parallel stories know each other
- Someone is surprised to see the Prime Minister.
2. The Evil Dead
Some of the best movies for drinking games are those cult classics we want to revisit. The Evil Dead is the perfect combination of low-budget horror and Bruce Campbell to mix with your cocktails.
Drink when:
- Ash says “Groovy”
- Someone says “Ashley”
- You see a clock
- Someone says “Join us”
- A wrong key is used.
3. Top Gun
The movie starring Tom Cruise as a rebellious fighter pilot, Maverick, who goes up against the oppression of… err… those who don’t like really really fast planes? There’s shirtless volleyball too.
Take a drink when: There’s a homoerotic look shared between characters. Characters high five. Maverick goes against the rules. The song ‘Danger Zone’ plays.
4. Twilight
If you’re going to rewatch the originals before Midnight Sun comes out (which you absolutely should do), you’ll need a few drinks.
Drink when:
- Bella looks like she’s about to throw up
- Edward looks uncomfortable
- A vampire uses their powers
- Bella and Edward stare silently at each other.
5. Bee Movie
Arguably one of Dreamworks’ worst animated movies to date, Bee Movie has been the subject of much ridicule online. Of course, that level of ridicule has elevated it to almost cult status — making it worthy of a watch with a drink in hand.
Drink when:
- Someone says “Bee”
- Someone says “Honey”
- There is a bee pun
- Someone gets stung
- There is a breaking news sequence
- Bears are referenced.
