Edge of Tomorrow is a 2014 American science fiction action film directed by Doug Liman, based on the 2004 Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The film stars Tom Cruise as Major William Cage, a public relations officer who is sent to fight in a war against an alien race called Mimics. When Cage is killed in battle, he is sent back in time to the beginning of the same day, and is forced to fight and die repeatedly until he can find a way to defeat the Mimics. Plot In 2020, the world is at war with an alien race called the Mimics. The Mimics are highly adaptable and lethal, and they quickly overrun the world’s military forces. In an effort to turn the tide of the war, the United States military develops a time travel device called the Omega Protocol. The Omega Protocol allows soldiers to be sent back in time to the beginning of the war, in an attempt to learn the Mimics’ weaknesses and find a way to defeat them. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is a public relations officer who has never seen combat. He is assigned to a suicide mission to the island of Okinawa, where the Mimics have landed. Cage is killed in battle, but he is revived by the Omega Protocol and sent back in time to the beginning of the day. Cage is forced to relive the same day over and over again, each time dying in a different way. As Cage relives the day, he begins to learn the Mimics’ weaknesses. He also begins to develop a relationship with Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), a Special Forces soldier who is also fighting the Mimics.
